Interaction Among Letters in a Visual Display.

Abstract

In three experiments on visual perception, noise items of both high and low scaled similarity to the target items were used to test the distance vs similarity interaction predicted by Estes' interactive channels model. Based on the results, an alternative model is proposed which emphasizes decisional confusions rather than inhibitory feature interactions.
