System Test Methodology.

Abstract

A large proportion of the cost of developing information processing systems is devoted to the testing phase of system development. At present the results of this large expenditure have been inadequate to suit the high reliability demanded of today's computer systems. This research develops a framework of a system test methodology that can be used to provide a rational approach to the design of a system. The methodology uses a model that provides a modularized functional representation of a processing system. The model is used to investigate a broad class of system test problems. A simulation of the model was constructed. The use of simulation during system testing was discussed. (Author)
