Some Issues in Hierarchical Planning.
Abstract
This paper presents hierarchical planning in a production environment as a sequence of aggregate and detailed problems which are solved iteratively. An example of inconsistency between aggregate and detailed models is given. This issue is resolved by defining certain planning horizons. A characterization of the optimal aggregate linear programming solution is presented which suggests a lower bound procedure. Extensions for regular and overtime hours are discussed.
