On the Surface-Induced Dipole Moments of Adsorbed Molecules.

Abstract

A discussion of the physical origin of the surface induced dipole moment of molecules and atoms is presented. It is stressed that the effect is dynamical in origin. A simple model is used in the discussion which shows a number of relations between different properties of the atom-surface system.
