Primary and Secondary Benefits from Treatment of Alcoholism.

Abstract

161 NAVAL ENLISTED MEN WHO HAD BEEN TREATED FOR ALCOHOLISM AT Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center, Long Beach were studied to determine the effect of direct treatment of a wide range of medical problems. A comparison between pre-ARC hospitalizations and post-ARC hospitalizations revealed a dramatic reduction in the number of sick days for both alcoholic-related and general medical complaints and in the number of diagnoses given in hospitalized cases, especially in psychiatric and alcoholic related problems.
