Effectiveness of Treatment for Navy Enlisted Men in Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers and Units.

Abstract

The characteristics of Navy enlisted alcoholics were compared for men admitted to two types of facilities, Alcohol Rehabilitation Centers and Units. Post-treatment effectiveness was determined and variables related to effectiveness identified for the two populations and for selected individual Centers and Units. The effectiveness rate was higher for the Centers' population but individual Units had effectiveness rates that equaled or exceeded those of the individual Centers. The implications of the findings for program development in the treatment of alcoholism and directions for future research were discussed.
