Investigation of Nomex and Beta-Fiberglas Carpeting Materials for Shipboard Use.

Abstract

Flammability tests led to the selection and approval of Nomex and Beta-fiberglas carpeting for shipboard use. Selected laboratory tests were performed to develop the necessary information. Analyses of test results indicate that Beta-fiberglas offers the best abrasion resistance, the most resilience after compression and the highest degree of fire resistance. Nomex carpeting possesses the best resistance to spots and stains, does not develop static electricity, and is more resistant to soiling. Proposed specifications based mainly on laboratory tests have been prepared.
