Catalyzed Removal of Hydrogen from Electronic Equipment.

Abstract

The AN/PRC-77 Radio Set is one example of a semi-sealed electronic equipment in which hydrogen, generated by the battery supply, presents an explosion hazard when in contact with the electronic componentry. This report describes and compares several noble metal catalytic systems which may be used for the purpose of eliminating the hydrogen, through oxidation with air, in a safe and controlled manner. The report also describes a simple and novel detector utilizing a catalyst which warns of hydrogen entry into a semi-sealed environment. (Author)
