Centralization and Vigor - French Education and Research,

Abstract

Since the mid 1950's French science and technology have developed at a phenomenal rate. French National Planning which has led to centralization of scientific education and the planning of research, is summarized as an introduction to a discussion of French education, a major factor in the development of science and technology. The organization of the Ministry of Education, together with a summary of primary, secondary and tertiary education and the 'grands etablissements' of France, is the major topic treated. The report concludes with a comparison of U.S. and French educational and research statistics.
