New Techniques in Numerical Analysis and Their Application to Aerospace Systems.

Abstract

The objective of this investigation is to contribute to numerical techniques of interest in systems theory in general and aerospace engineering in particular. Typical areas of mathematical research are: (a) solution of nonlinear, algebraic or transcendental, equations, (b) solution of nonlinear, ordinary differential equations, (c) mathematical programming problems, and (d) optimal control problems. Typical areas of application are: (1) numerical solution of optimum flight trajectories and (2) numerical solution of optimum aerodynamic shapes. Algorithms for digital computer have been developed and tested on IBM 370/155.
