Development and Fabrication of Motor Cases Utilizing Tube Mill Products.

Abstract

Significant cost savings in the fabrication of small-diameter (less than 12-inch-diameter) solid-propellant, rocket-motor cases can be expected by using commercial tube mill products. This program explored in detail the design and manufacturing parameters for fabricating a conceptual design of motor case using commercial aluminum tube and steel pipe. The parameters examined included availability of material, material properties, size tolerances, fabrication techniques and processes, and fabrication sequence.
