Abstract

The report describes findings from a comprehensive, worldwide survey of illicit drug and alcohol use among enlisted men in the Armed Forces. It presents data on estimates of nontherapeutic drug usage and alcohol usage in 1972; describes the demographic characteristics of drug and alcohol users; discusses the effectiveness of major program designed to control the abuse of drugs or alcohol and assess the reasons for the use of drugs and alcohol and the extent of command emphasis in activities to control drug and alcohol abuse.
