Error in Energy Spectrum Estimation Due to Quantization.

Abstract

The report investigates the error in the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) caused by the quantization of the input values by an analog to digital converter and ignoring the round-off errors caused by the DFT algorithm. The expected value of the error was shown to be the product of the number of samples taken and quantization variance while the variance of the error was shown to be not only a function of the number of samples and quantization variances, but also a function of the fourth moment of the quantization error and the true value of the output.
