Experimental Study of the Switching Characteristics of Bistable Amplifiers in the Laminar and Turbulent Flow Regimes.

Abstract

The parametric study on the switching phenomenon in a large scale model of wall attachment bistable amplifier was continued. The model consisted of two straight walls of various lengths, set-backs and angles without vents and splitter. Previous turbulent air flow data for aspect ratios of 8 and 4 was extended to aspect ratios of 2 and 1. Switching times were measured as well as steady pressure distributions on both walls and in the outlet section. Switching times were obtained from oscilloscope recordings of the velocity (measured by a hot wire) and the pitot pressure in the control and output channels. The possibility of operating a bistable amplifier in the laminar flow regime was also experimentally investigated.
