An Overview of the Impact Study of the McClellan-Kerr Multiple Purpose Arkansas River System

Abstract

This report summarizes the results of the first stage of assessment of impacts of the completed McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River System, located in Arkansas and Oklahoma. The system is designed to produce benefits to multiple purpose including transportation, hydroelectric production, flood damage abatement, water supply, sediment control and stabilization, recreation, and fish and wildlife enhancement. Results of the first round of research and the first year's output of the project are discussed in the perspective of the decision process leading to approval, authorization and appropriation and from the perspective of public awareness of actual and potential impacts.
