Potential of Sputtered Films as Protective Coatings.

Abstract

One to ten micron thick films of novel and refractory materials, deposited by means of sputtering techniques, have demonstrated outstanding protective characteristics when tested under severe thermal shock conditions at high temperatures, or in accelerated dynamic erosion tests of T-58 first stage compressor blades.
