Development of a Nonproprietary Flexible Sheet Explosive

Abstract

A nonproprietary, olive-drab colored, flexible sheet explosive based on cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine (RDX) was developed as a replacement for a pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) based flexible sheet explosive (EL 506C, Type II) manufactured under U.S. Patent No. 2,992,087 by E. I. DuPont. Before completion of the program, the study was expanded to include flexible explosive compositions based on cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine (HMX) and mixtures of RDX and HMX.
