Integral Engine Inlet Particle Separator. Volume 2. Design Guide

Abstract

Volume 2 of this report is a design guide for integral engine inlet separators in the 2 to 15 lb/sec size range. The separators are designed to remove sand, dust, and single foreign objects from the air entering a turboshaft engine. The procedures are based on results of a 30-month program to design and evaluate integral separators in 2, 5, and 15 lb/sec sizes. Also included are procedures developed during the development of an integral inlet separator for the T700-GE-700 engine. A definition of a turboshaft engine environment in terms of sand, dust, and foreign objects is included in Appendix A. Appendix B describes the analysis of individual particle trajectories in separators to predict sand separation efficiency.
