Effects of Fallout Radiation on Crop Production.

Abstract

Data in the report show the following order of plant sensitivity to irradiation: Barley > wheat > soybean = or > corn > potato > alfalfa > rice. Plants were the most sensitive to irradiation during meiosis. Irradiation at high-exposure rates was more damaging than at low-exposure rates. Beta radiation appears to be equally effective as gamma radiation, providing that attenuation by tissue is accounted for in the beta dosimetry.
