Progress Report on the Measurement of the Critical Exponent eta of a Binary Liquid Mixture Near Its Critical Mixing Point.

Abstract

Measurements were made on the scattering intensity of a binary liquid mixture near its critical mixing point. Effects of turbidity and double scattering are taken into account before comparing the data with phenomenological scaling functions proposed by Fisher and Burford and by Ferrell and Scalapino. The result shows that eta is non-zero. Difficulties encountered in the precise determination of eta are discussed.
