Computer-Based Shipboard Training Administration System (STAS): Development Phase

Abstract

Computer systems have been used aboard combatant ships to perform functions in support of tactical operations. An additional goal has been the use of computer systems to support nontactical functions, e.g., training administration. A minicomputer system (NOVA 1200) aboard the USS DAHLGREN for other nontactical data management functions was the impetus for the development of a Shipboard Training Administration System (STAS). Report covers the shore- based development and shipboard checkout phases of the STAS project. The subsequent shipboard test and evaluation will be covered in future reports.
