Metastable Ions in Mass Spectra.

Abstract

Briefly described is research on instrumentation and techniques which have been developed to study the unimolecular decompositions of mass-analyzed gaseous organic ions, including those produced by metastable decompositions and collisional activation (CA). CA spectra provide a unique new method for the characterization of the molecular structures of ions, independent of their internal energy. This has been applied to a wide variety of organic ions.
