Sediment Core Descriptions: R/V KANA KEOKI 1971 Cruise, Eastern and Western Pacific Ocean.

Abstract

Megascopic descriptions are presented of deep sea sediment cores obtained on cruises of the R/V KANA KEOKI in the eastern and western Pacific Ocean during 1971. Location of ship tracks and coring stations are shown. Corrected satellite navigation determined coordinates for each coring operation are indicated, and water depth, length of core, and age of oldest sediment in the cores are given. Descriptions include structural and lithologic sequences in each core, as well as a breakdown of the sedimentary units of each core as determined by microscopic examination. Diagrams of sedimentary structures and boundaries are included along with descriptions of color variations and textural variations. This Institute's sediment analysis procedure is described briefly.
