Nucleation Experiments in Molecular Beams.
Abstract
A nozzle molecular beam is used as a cluster generator, and the beam are examined with an ionization gage detector and high energy electron diffraction. The diffraction patterns of carbon dioxide and water for conditions of maximum clustering have 'averaged' cluster sizes of 1400 and 3400 molecules/cluster, and crystalline structure of simple cubic and diamond cubic which is characteristic of their respective bulk phases.
