PASS Program Report: Experimental Digital Beamsteering and Signal Generator Electronics.

Abstract

The purpose of the equipment described in this document is to demonstrate the capabilities of digital beamsteering and signal generation for a Parametric Scanning Sonar (PASS). It provides controlled digital-delay phase shifted excitation to the 61 transducers of an experimental sonar array for steering the beam in roll and pitch with a selection of modulation parameters adequate for evaluating the digital beamsteering technique. The equipment was designed to operate at a nominal carrier frequency of 20 kHz with a 5 kHz difference frequency.
