Efficient Use of Modularization in Transportation Systems

Abstract

This study suggests a means of most economically utilizing several different modes of transportation (container sizes). Using the digital computer, a computer program has been written which will define the optimum module dimensions on the basis of least total internal cubic loss for a variable set of container sizes. In order to yield the most economically efficient dimensions, the relative frequency of use of each container size was also incorporated into the minimum cubic loss criterion.
