Brightness Temperatures and Polarizations of Solar Active Regions at 3.8 CM - Theory and Observations.

Abstract

Extensive observations (230 hours in 1973 and 1974) of right and left circularly polarized emission from solar active regions were carried out at 3.8 cm with the 120 ft Haystack antenna, which at this frequency has a resolution of about 4.4 arc minutes. The purpose of these observations was to study the changes in brightness temperature and polarization before flare activity in the hope of recognizing characteristic patterns which could be used as warning signals in the forecasting of major solar flare events.
