Subtidal Concrete Piling Fauna in Monterey Harbor, California.

Abstract

Piling organisms were scraped off one side of a concrete piling from the bottom to the low intertidal zone beneath Municipal Wharf No. 2 in Monterey Harbor, California. Sampling was performed at 0.5 sq m surface area increments. Wet biomass measurements were taken, the organisms were identified and an evaluation of species abundance in each sample was made. Data are given by a Table of Species with abundance in each sample, a Species List with comments on particular organisms, drawings representing the more prominent animals observed and in situ photographs of various piling animals.
