Results from Aquatic Ecological Surveys at Newport Army Ammunition Plant, Newport, Indiana.

Abstract

Aquatic ecological surveys were conducted at Newport Army Ammunition Plant (NAAP) from February through June 1973 to determine the effects of TNT manufacturing and other plant operations on the water quality and stream biota of the drainages surrounding NAAP. Macroinvertebrates and stream water quality were sampled monthly, and fishes quarterly. Fishes collected were typical for streams in the area. Diversity and abundance of macroinvertebrates were affected more by natural fluctuations in the flow and runoff than by discharges or accidental spill from the TNT facility.
