Scattering Properties of Periodic Arrays Consisting of Resonant Multi-Mode Elements.

Abstract

The report presents the results of an investigation of the reflection properties of periodic arrays of dipoles. Through Babinet's principle the results obtained also apply to periodic slot arrays. The specific periodic array geometries treated are composed of Y elements and symmetrical crossed elements. In the theoretical investigation presented for the Y element arrays, both the element geometry and array grid structure are treated as adjustable design parameters. By applying the results presented an unlimited number of useful Y element array geometries having different grid structures can be obtained. Three specific array geometries are presented to demonstrate the design principles involved and the array performance attainable. Obtaining useful array configurations requires simultaneous analytical design of both the element and grid geometries. A method is described for obtaining specific optimum Y array designs.
