Impact of the Person on Social Interchange: Results of Molecular Cue Analysis Studies and Methodological Implications.

Abstract

This report summarizes the phases of human relations impact research and reports results of two empirical studies. With impact of the person on social interchange providing the focus for investigation, a conceptual framework was constructed to assist in the development of measures of interpersonal interaction effectiveness. Techniques for measurement were developed and empirically verified. A prototype of personnel selection procedure was also developed and its feasibility determined. This procedure involved observation of videotaped standardized interviews to identify nonverbal cues related to interaction effectiveness. Types of relationship were identified and seven measures of interaction were developed.
