Determining Wave Functions from g Factors.

Abstract

EPR measurements that determine g factors for Kramers doublet states are usually reported in the literature, together with wave functions deduced from the data. Since most experiments just determine magnitudes for the g factors, they are often erroneously assumed to be positive and all wave functions consistent with the data are not obtained. This deficiency has led to incorrect or unwarranted conclusions in several instances. Formulas are given in this report for calculating all of the wave functions in those cases where one can assume linear combinations of Russell-Saunders wave functions with real coefficients and where g factors are sufficient to determine the coefficients.
