Communicating by Satellite.

Abstract

This paper covers some of the basic topics encountered by the communications manager faced with the task of familiarizing himself in the rapidly growing field of communications satellites. It is not intended to be an in-depth discussion but rather a brief introduction to the ionosphere, the decibel measurement system and some very basic rocket and space mechanics. Commerical ventures by INTELSAT have been most successful in this field and, for that reason, a section on INTELSAT and its progress has been included. Finally, a glossary of useful satellite terminology is included to supplement other available sources of information. (Author)
