Moderate Burning of a Liquid Fuel Drop.

Abstract

The burning of a spherical fuel drop immersed in an oxidizer is considered in the limit of infinite activation energy. For certain values of the various parameters a rational flame-sheet theory is constructed and explicit formulae are deduced for all the quantities that characterize the burning. All the solutions correspond to 'mode-rate burning' for which the vaporization rate is a decreasing function of Damkohler number. (Author)
