Strong Burning of a Liquid Fuel Drop.

Abstract

The combustion of a liquid fuel drop is considered in the neighborhood of the classical large Damkohler Number (or Burke-Schumann) limit, when the activation energy theta is also very large. By permitting M, the fuel vaporization rate, to differ from its equilibrium value by 0(1/theta), the entire strong-burning branch is described. Analytic criteria are deduced for the solution to be valid, and these permit explicit predictions of when M is a multiple-valued function of the Damkohler Number.
