A Note on Critical Reflections of Waves in an Isotropic Elastic Plate.

Abstract

At grazing incidence of a flexural P-wave, or at grazing incidence of an extensional SV-wave, the wave motion vanishes in the case of an isotropic, elastic plate with traction-free surfaces. It is shown that by using d'Alembert's limiting procedure, the wave motion in these criterical cases can be obtained from the Rayleigh-Lamb solution in a straight forward manner. (Author)
