Cosmic-Ray Penumbral Effects for Selected Balloon Launching Locations.

Abstract

The penumbral characteristics as determined from cosmic-ray trajectory calculations are compared for several balloon launching locations in the Western Hemisphere including Palestine, Texas, Cape Giradeau, Missouri, and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Penumbra for a number of zenith and azimuth angles were calculated in an effort to determine the transmittance function for balloon detectors viewing over a specific solid angle.
