Unified Theory of Image Processing.

Abstract

The research conducted on this project had two main purposes: (1) Formulation of a general approach to image processing, and preparation of books and survey papers based on this approach. (2) Investigation of the formal theory of computation on pictures, involving the study of mathematical models (grammars, automata, etc.) for 'picture languages'. Over a ten year period, 39 technical reports were issued on the project; nearly all of these were later published in the form of books or journal articles. The list of these reports, and their abstracts, given on the following pages can serve as an overview of the detailed accomplishments of the project.
