Computerized Calculation and Plotting of Significant Sound Ray Paths and Propagation Loss for Single Temperature-Depth (BT) Profiles.

Abstract

The propagation of sound in the sea is affected by a number of factors. This paper summarizes methods for computerized ray tracing and sound propagation loss computation for short ranges. It is assumed for this program that the temperature-depth (and sound velocity) field has no horizontal gradients within this range. Sound sources are inserted at two depths. All vertical coordinates and angles are measured positive downwards. No surface reflection is considered.
