The Operational Impact of Relocating Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco to Hamilton Air Force Base.
Abstract
The Coast Guard is actively considering the relocation of Air Station San Francisco to Hamilton Air Force Base. Presently located at San Francisco International Airport, the unit in question is the Coast Guard's major air facility on the Pacific Coast. Its aircraft allowance includes the HC-130 long-range search aircraft, the HU-16E amphibious search plane and the short-range HH-52A rescue helicopter. Relocating to Hamilton, which is situated in Marin County near Novato, California, would represent a move of approxmately 28 miles to the north. It is the purpose of this paaper to: (1) examine the proposed move from an operational standpoint; (2) through accepted techniques of quantitative analysis, develop a methodology to determine the effect of the move on operations; and (3) provide statistically significant conclusions which can be used by management as an aid in making the decision concerning the move.
