Some Observations on Technology Transfer in Japan

Abstract

The report draws upon existing literature from Japanese and non- Japanese authors to provide a brief overview of the Japanese technology transfer mechanism. It stresses the totality of that country's commitment to economic growth utilizing the technology transfer tool as a major contributor toward this end. The technical aspects are considered, along with the various secular factors--financial, political, economic, social, cultural--that provide the support upon which the Japanese technology transfer success is based. To a limited extent, the uniqueness and universality of this Japanese experience are discussed.
