Orthotropic Bending Properties of Fiberboard

Abstract

An experimental procedure for the determination of the orthotropic bending stiffness of fiberboard is described, including the loading apparatus, strain gauges used, recording equipment and data reduction procedure. Results obtained using the described procedure are presented for V3C fiberboard. These results indicate that the assumption of orthotropic behavior is valid, that this grade of corrugated fiberboard is least flexible in the direction perpendicular to the corrugations and that the stiffness properties of the fiberboard are not significantly degraded by the attachment of adhesive bonded resistance strain gauges.
