State-of-the-Art in Variability of Material Properties for Airport Pavement Systems.

Abstract

This report describes and discusses types and distributions of variability, including how material properties variation can be determined and evaluated. The main body of the report presents a summary of the variational characteristics of pavement materials properties for those materials which are currently used in pavement design. The materials discussed are portland cement concrete, asphalt concrete, blackbase and asphalt-treated materials, cement-treated materials, lime-treated materials, and untreated subgrade soils. An attempt is made to summarize the variational characteristics which can be expected for each material for as-built service conditions in pavements.
