Passive Nosetip Technology (PANT) Program

Abstract

A summary of the analytical and experimental activities performed on the Passive Nosetip Technology (PANT) program is given. The various test programs are identified and key test results are described. Analysis results in the areas of surface roughness effects on nosetip performance, nosetip shape change physics, graphite ablation modeling, and weather erosion effects modeling are summarized. Program results indicate the direction for future development of reentry vehicle nosetip materials and configurations. Color illustrations reproduced in black and white.
