Experiments on Detection and Classification with the Assistance of a Computer.

Abstract

This report summarizes laboratory experiments on computer assisted detection and classification, mainly of auditory signals. The report includes a discussion of the difficulties of interpretation when each man performs a number of different experimental conditions. The relevance of the work to the Royal Navy is also discussed, and the question of whether laboratory experiments with or without delayed knowledge of results are the better predictors of performance in ships at sea.
