The 1974 Skywater Workshop,

Abstract

The Division of Atmospheric Water Resources Management of the Bureau of Reclamation has received authorization and funding to set up and operate the High Plains Cooperative Experiment with the primary aim of determining the feasibility of augmenting precipitation in the High Plains region by artificial means. In order to take advantage of the widest range of technical expertise in planning the experiment, Dr. Archie Kahan, Chief of the Division, convened the 1974 Skywater Workshop in Vail Colorado, on 22-25 July 1974. Approximately 40 visiting scientists and 8 host members of the Bureau of Reclamation participated in a series of round table discussions, mainly in three interest groups--design and evaluation, measurements, and modeling--but with frequent general sessions. This Paper consists essentially of the author's notes taken at the general and modeling sessions together with some personal comments. Its intended use is to assist the Bureau of Reclamation personnel in preparing the official Proceedings of the Workshop. (Author)
