Nitrogen Gas Generator Development - CLGP.

Abstract

A 5-month program was conducted to develop a solid fueled nitrogen gas generating system for use in high acceleration environments. Tests were performed at temperatures from -40F to 165F to determine the ignition and ballistic characteristics, establish the gas generation efficiency, and confirm the structural integrity. Six conformance tests were conducted at three temperature levels. The basic design is capable of meeting all of the system requirements with the exception of the delivered gas temperature which was higher than desired. Recommendations for correcting this deficiency and other areas requiring technology development are discussed. The design of an alternate nitrogen gas generator system to replace a high pressure helium storage bottle is presented.
