Development of Liquid Crystal Systems for Air Force Display Application.

Abstract

A series of 4 (4')- alkoxyformyloxy- 4'(4)-alkylazoxybenzenes were prepared. The transition temperatures have been determined and the applicability of the nuclear magnetic resonance spectral shift reagent Eu (fod)3 to determine the mole percent of structural isomeric mixtures is demonstrated. A series of substituted p-cyanoazo and p-cyanoazoxy benzenes have been prepared. Their transition temperatures were determined by differential thermal analysis as well as microscopically.
