Direct Formulation of Some Two-Dimensional Theories of Mechanics.

Abstract

This paper is based on a lecture concerning a direct formulation (rather than a derivation from the three-dimensional equations) of some two-dimensional theories of mechanics with particular reference to thin elastic shells and to the propagation of fairly long water waves.
