High Energy Halogen Chemistry.

Abstract

The objective of this research program is to synthesize new functional groupings with potential utility in high energy propellants and explosives. Fluorodinitroalkyl groups on silicon were constructed by nitrite displacement of halogen, oxidative nitration and fluorination. 3,3-Dinitrobutyl and fluorodinitroethoxymethyl derivatives of silicon were also synthesized. Phenyl was used as a silicon blocking group in the synthesis of (3-fluoro-3,3-dinitropropyl)methyl polysiloxane. Reactions of olefins with dichlorine heptoxide are described.
